The Poplar Grove Plantation was originally built in New Orleans as an Asian-inspired pavilion for an international exposition, but was moved nearly 200 miles, by barge along the Mississippi, to become the permanent home to generations of the Wilkinson family, descendants of General James Wilkinson. The beautifully restored structure is located north of the city, on the west side of the river, near the Anchorage area. Today, visitors can tour what once was the main residence of a sugar plantation, and view high quality antiques and art that furnish the home.
