Part of the larger state museum system, Louisiana State Museum--Baton Rouge features 69,000 square feet of exhibition space, offering permanent and visiting collections on an intriguing array of subjects. Exhibits explore such subject matter as the Louisiana Purchase, Mardi Gras traditions from throughout the state, and Louisiana's rich musical heritage. Visit the famed Civil War submarine featured on PBS' History Detectives, or learn about New Orleans' iconic Lucky Dog carts featured in the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel Confederacy of the Dunces. The museum is located downtown, just blocks from Arsenal Park.
