As far as I know, it's the best beer selection, particularly draft, and consistently good to fair food ( excellent for the price ). Drink the draft and order the lunch or dinner special. This is where I most often take friends from out of town. These newbies get off on alligator, etc. No one will !!!!whine!!!!. Might be a long wait, especially at lunch; grab a seat at the bar while you wait. P.S. I'm doing this site a favor, and it edited my review! It considered the name of a female dog some sort of obscenity, and I had to change this review to say "whine" instead. It just lost all credibility with me and I'll never be back. I'd advise you to do the same!!!!

The Chimes East opened about a year ago on Coursey Blvd. and it's much improved over the original. I've taken out-of-town guests there and we all loved it. Seafood is excellent. Great red beans and rice. One of the few places left where you can get fresh-shucked oysters on the half shell and they're only 30 cents apiece from 4 to 7 p.m. I've been for lunch, dinner, and Sunday brunch and the only complaint I have is that there's almost always a 20 to 30 minute wait, but they'll give you a pager and you can wander into the bar and work on your "round-the-world." It can get pretty noisy and boisterous when there's an LSU football game playing on the array of big-screen tv's scattered throughout the restaurant. There's outdoor patio service that can be very pleasant in the spring and fall or if you absolutely have to have a smoke.

I've been a couple of times before for drinks, but i recently went for lunch. The service was slow and they were rude. My food was undercooked and had to be sent back. My friends also each had to send something back. If you go, go for drinks only, they're good and the bartenders are friendly. Otherwise, pass on The Chimes!
